The photophore is a timeless decorative object that adds a warm, romantic atmosphere to any room in the house. It can be used to light up summer evenings on a terrace, or to create a soft, subdued atmosphere in a bedroom or living room. Today, two French craft brands have teamed up to create a unique and sustainable photophore: Q de bouteilles and Malàkio.

Q de bouteilles has teamed up with Malàkio to create a photophore made from recycled materials.
Malàkio collects the raw materials from oyster farmers and restaurateurs in Brittany and Charente. After drying them naturally, they transform them in Nantes, where they make all their objects. The low-tech, no-firing process and the proximity of the raw materials mean that this composite can be used to make one-off or mass-produced items with a very low GHG footprint.
The glass bell is made by Q de bouteilles from a magnum of Burgundy wine, highlighting the beauty of raw and recycled glass. To make the base of the photophore, Malàkio incorporates crushed glass from Q de bouteilles product off-cuts and oyster shells.
